Randy, Non-Topic: Doll Bambino Cubed

A drawing of our pal Doll Bambino from my sketchbook while I color my Adventure Time piece.  This really happened, I only drew it so there would be proof.

Round 35: Get Ready For Adventure!

Full disclosure: I've only seen 1 or 2 episodes so far, but I definitely see its appeal.  I'm trying to catch up on my Rust Belt Monster challenges and put together a quick drawing for Adventure Time.  Drawn completely in Sketchbook Pro with a little touch up in Photoshop.  I played around with the S-Curve tool to try and keep the characters organic.  Normally I draw my characters more blocky and I'm trying to get around that a  little bit.

Round 36: I Hung My Head

When I think of Johnny Cash I think about the Johnny Cash I was introduced to when I was a kid.  The Johnny Cash who use to show up on "Little House on the Prairie",  "Hee-Haw" and any other show that had horses and cowboy hats on it in the late 70's early 80's.  He was the guy with the deep voice, always wore black and when I was really young I thought he had something to do with Abraham Lincoln so I couldn't help but pay attention to him.  My Grandad liked him, my Mom liked him, Aunts, Uncles, everybody and regardless of any music fascinations that popped up as I got older, I liked him and the older I get the more I like him.
This piece is inspired by his remake of Sting's "I Hung My Head" which like his remake of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" he did WAY better than the original, the record covers I grew up with and Johnny Cash from the late 70's early 80's.  Graphite, toned paper, bleach and Photoshop to finish it up.

If you haven't heard his version you can check it out here.

Dead Pool

This is a little something Mr. Crider handed me a few months back at a Drink & Draw. He slung it in my direction and mumbled, "When you have time"...then he mumbled something about voices in the walls, time machines and Amazon women from the moon. But we'll save that for another post. Penciled by the talented Mr. Crider...inked by the ever so humble and slightly off kilter... Me.

Tim, Round 36: Upon my liar's chair

I hate drawing likenesses, so for our "Johnny Cash" round I improvised. I like a few songs sung by Cash, "Hurt" is my favorite which is where the impetus for this drawing came from.

Randy, Round 36: I See A Darkness

I drew Johnny Cash, then I gave him tentacles, so I made him better.

While working on this I listened to a lot of the American series that he produced with Rick Rubin,  was struck by how much his style changed songs I'd heard dozens of times before.

I think that's something I, and I think the collective as a whole really strives for.
