Happy Birthday Henry!

One of the best things I've been involved with in the last couple of years is the Cleveland Chapter of the Drink and Draw Social Club.  So so so many talented people in the area come out to draw silly things and get to know each other. Henry Pope of Pink and Nonook fame is one of those insanely talented people I've had the pleasure to get to know.  The man is a MACHINE!!!  One of the most dedicated, talented and motivated people I've ever known and is truly an inspiration.

This lil drawing is my take at his Pink and Nanook characters.  A lot less sexy but fun to draw nonetheless.  SO head on over to the website, check out his work then swing by his Facebook and wish him a happy birthday!

Crazy Catwoman

Every year around the holidays, our good buddies at Carol and John's Comics raffle off comic book covers created by local artists to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank.

Last year, I did a cover featuring Batman and Robin attacked by a swarm of Cat Woman's pets. Since that cover was pretty popular at the event (and I love me some kitties) I decided to do a follow up this year:

Acrylic paint with a touch of watercolor and colored pencil!

Pencils:

Last year's cover:

Come hang out at the comic shop on December 20th and win my new cover! Or maybe art by another RBMC member or one of our cartoon pals. Details here. See you there!

Round 40: A Pig who can't fly is just a pig

I love "Porco Rosso".
In writing this "brief" description I find myself writing some, stopping and re-writing, gushing like a fanboy and not getting anywhere near "brief".  SO suffice it to say I love "Porco Rosso" and you should check it out.  It's as much about adventure, slapstick and nostalgia as it is about love, longing and coping with grief and loss.  It's so much more than it seems, much more than a flying pig movie!

This piece is not at all what I intended, it started out a sketch while I was rewatching the movie and turned into this.  Kinda inspired by some of the pics of Charles Lindbergh on this one.  Every last bit of it, colored pencil on toned paper.  The piece I intended my still happen someday, if it does check back here!

Hey Adventure Lovers! I made this for our buddy Angela's gallery show! It's cut paper and colored pencil and a little bit of marker. Adventure time is my favorite show ever. Shmowzow!

Red is for Roses

Second verse, same as the first. A little bit louder and a little bit worse.

This is my second painting for "The Apron Covers It", an exhibition at the BAYarts center in Bay Village, Ohio that celebrates women by focusing on the theme of aprons. Is is a sister show to another one on the campus which features art about dresses. All of the women in this show are BAYarts faculty, including myself.

This painting uses the same models and encaustic painting techniques as in my previous post. If you want to learn more about how to paint this way, click here. I will also be teaching a workshop on Encaustics at BAYarts during the first week of August. If you are interesting in attending, you can get the details by clicking here.

"Red is for Roses"  • 18 in x 12 in wood panel • Colored Pencil, Watercolor, Marker, Gesso, Handmade Paper, Beeswax, Oil Paint • On Display at BAYarts in Bay Village Ohio Until August
Available through the gallery for $275.00

Come see it live on Friday, July 5th at the gallery opening.
Thanks everyone!
