Behold The Triple Lindy

Click the image, count the lines.
Hey Folks, Randy here sharing the first of many previews of the upcoming "Triple Lindy" art show Oct 9th at BAYArts.  The show is a collaboration between fellow monster Jim Giar and our good pal Ryan Finley. All three of us teach cartooning at BAYArts, and they asked us to come up with a showcase.
This is one of our buddy art pieces.  It was made by all three of us penciling and then adding the finishes all by myself.  While the show is really a 3 part solo show, there'll be a lot of buddy art with Jim and Ryan applying finishes as well. If you're in the area, and you like things that are cool, you should make it out.

But, if not, we'll post more from it along the way.

More To Love

Click the picture, count the lines.

In keeping with the "prints we'll have at FCBD this weekend" theme, I wanted to post the new color version of this piece I shared on Valentines Day. It's part of a larger collection (more on that soon), but I printed a limited number of these for the event to share the love early.

Rescue! Now In Color

I took last weeks grim and gritty black and white drawing and made it into this weeks grim and gritty color drawing. I’ll have prints of this at Carol And John’s this friday at my table as well at the RBMC’s table. I think it’d look great in your kid’s room...or yours.

Rescue!

Click and count the lines.

It’s no secret that this is about my kid being born. The difference in scale is entirely intentional as I wanted Robin to only be able to hold Batman’s finger, just like my daughter did when I met her.

This is EXACTLY how I remember it happening...Ladder and all.

Just like the other monsters, this original piece is for sale at FCBD at Carol and John’s comic shop, as well as prints of an (upcoming) colored version. You should buy them, my kid is almost two now and she needs a Robin costume.

Dragons Love Donuts

I'd probably have a pet dragon too if I could not eat all the donuts myself.

V-Day

Finished the inks for a print to be released in the near future just in time for Valentines Day! Mortal enemies hugging? I assure you I drew no inspiration from my dating career for this piece. Not one bit.

Art Nerd Toughness

Skulls are tough, painting is tougher. Id get this tattooed if there weren't so many tiny lines...Or if I was tougher.

Calling A Big Ol' Soft Spot

With Valentines Day around the corner, it was a good time to celebrate my love...of wrestling. If you've been following my Instagram, you know how just how often a masked gentleman will make an appearance.  I'll take a wrestler over a superhero most days, but it might be because I don't own any capes.

Since Valentines Day is right around the corner, I've released this as a print and a sticker in case you've got a special wrestling nerd/mask enthusiast in your life. Stay cool out there, friends.

Your Pal,

Randy Crider

We're Okay

This week it's an actual Rust Belt Monster Collective. I'm a huge fan of being proud of where you're from, but this is more my speed. Cleveland's great, I guess.

2014 was the year I embraced this style fully, after flirting with it for a long time. Sometimes on this very blog.  I've got no intention of stopping anytime soon, so better get used to it.

I made these fellas stickers too, click here to make your okay bumper a bit more okay.

Jersey Shore: Super Mario

Happy New Year Rust Belters! If you've been following me on Instagram, you might've noticed that I ended 2014 with a flurry of posts. However, if you're only following me here, you'd think that I'm a lazy so and so because its been sparse at best. So, 2015 is all about keeping a schedule. You'll see something from me every single Friday.

You're worth it. Also, you look nice today.

Your Pal,

Ohio: The Heart Of It All.

The Monsters are cooking up something giant for this years Ingenuity Fest, and it involves Robots.  I've decided to add a bit of local pride into my contribution to our loosely guarded secret project. I couldn't draw a nuclear power plant head without thinking about Perry, Ohio.  With any luck, I'll have stickers of this dude at Ingenuity, and you know he'll make your lunchbox the coolest.

Just remember. Monsters + Robots + Giant, I KNOW you like those things.

I Believe In Jack Kirby

When John Dudas of Carol And John's Comic Shop asked me to put a sticker together to celebrate the King's birthday, it was a pretty big deal for me. John was the one who pushed Mr. Kirby's work on me years and years ago, and forever changing my underground comics influenced artwork.  More than a decade later I'm constantly looking to Jack for inspiration, and this sticker is a very small thank you for that. Happy Birthday, Sir.

The stickers will be available at Carol And John's comic shop to support the Kirby4Hero's campaign.

Creature Comforts

I was asked to contribute some monsters for the first opening at Gallery Galore tonight. Alongside some color prints (I'll share those next week) they asked me to produce some sketches to sell unframed. Boy oh boy I sure fun with these. It's  been a nice reminder that Im capable of quickly taking sketches to ink and that I enjoy it a whole heck of a lot.

If you follow me on instagram (@randycrider) you've already seen these, but I wanted to formally share them on the blog.  We're the Rust Belt MONSTER collective after all.

Batman: Quick & Dirty

Original Recipe
Artist extrodinaire and all around good dude, Ryan Finley is curating an art show this weekend at Carol And John's comic book shop around everyone's favorite orphan. My dadding and drawing schedule keeps me busy, but I squeaked this fella out during lunch breaks.  While it's a faster style than I'm used to, I can see working this way again. Particularly for sketch covers.
Some Photoshop Embellishment
The original will be on display this weekend at Carol And John's comic shop, and red (and pink and blue) prints will be available for purchase as well.

Give Up

Hey there rust belt homies! Here's some more stuff happening in my sketchbook, this ones a double page drawing (note the seam) and has lots of lines. Lots of tiny tiny little lines that make my hand hurt by looking at em. I hate those lines.

Tess And The Dragon 2

Hey dudes! I'm still digging through a lot of older sketchbook work to share with you, but I wanted to take this week to play a bit with a limited pallet. I've got a few personal projects around the corner where it's a skill that will hopefully come in handy. This image came from a life drawing session, but I added the dragon afterwards as I've given up taking mescaline while I draw.

Recently, this image was used to promote the FIVE HOUR life drawing sessions I'm facilitating at BAYArts. next week. I had to add a quick black bikini top to it just like the biker magazines I used to stare at behind the corner in the grocery store growing up. Every so often they'd miss an edit and encourage me to start saving for a motorcycle.

I never got that bike, but starting next week I'll have 5 hours to stare at naked people without sneaking around.

Randy Crider

Hot!

I do tight pencils, and I'm always sad to see them go once I finish a piece in Illustrator, this is the first attempt at blending those two worlds.  I dunno about you, but I think they go together like peanut butter and jelly, so you'll probably see some more stuff like this. In the meantime I'll keep mixing up peanut butter and jelly inside my tummy.
