Ben, Round 37: The Tin Men!

The original Wizard of Oz film isn't my only (or most powerful) relation to the series.  Growing up in the 80's, I can remember the release of Return to Oz and would often catch The Wiz playing on TV.  I wanted to represent all 3 films and couldn't think of a better way than combining the each film's Tin Man into a superhero team.  Tin Man, Tin Man, and Tik Tok form The Tin Men!

The bearded man strikes again

Last week I was honored to be asked out to the Erie Shore Art League for an oil pastel and colored pencil demo.  I figured I should pick something I've drawn a few times so I'm not subjecting other Artists to watch me figure out a drawing and not get any of the technique.  So once again, Lincoln but now in color! And this time with my proper hand!
The bulk of this technique I learned from an article about the great Sergio Martinez  with a couple of additions I have learned about colored pencils along the way.  Eric Dull, Painter and President of the Art League was nice enough to post up a time lapse of the demo, you can see it here.  Hope you like it!  Thanks for dropping by.

Randy, Round 37, Gotta Get Dat Heart

The Wizard Of Oz is beloved by millions the world over, and I've never liked it.  Not even a little.

Id like it way more if it was like this.

Randy, 2013 Pole Showcase

My OZ piece needs a couple more days in the oven, so I'll just put this here in the meantime.

I do a lot of stuff for Cleveland Exotic Dance, and this weekend they held their yearly showcase of some of their and other studios pole dance students doing routines.

Here's the flyer I made for the event (notice the "Watcher" tattoo on her arm).

And here's four pieces I did for the gallery space in the studio.

The gallery work went over well, so I'll be posting more things along the same lines in the near future, but first I've got to slay a few photoshop demons standing in the way of this OZ piece.

Round 37: They weren't all bad

They couldn't help it if they were controlled by a golden cap and that cap fell into the wrong hands.  Once Glinda gives them the golden cap after their servitude under both the Wicked Witch of the West AND Dorothy they leave never to bother anyone again.
This piece is entirely analog similar to my Muppet piece from last year.  Oil Pastel, colored pencil and acrylic on vellum.
Thanks for checking it out!

Randy, Round 35: Never Ending Adventure Time

I haven't seen The Never Ending Story for more than a decade but I knew I wanted to crib the poster art for our Adventure Time challenge.  What I didn't expect just how apt of a title it was when I decided to use it as an excuse to level up my meager photoshop skillz.

I used a lot of bad words finishing this.  A whole mess of bad words.  I probably leveled up my cursing skillz in the process.

Expect more things looking like this to come from me in the near future.  I think the style suits me personally, as well as in the fabric of the group.  Also, I didn't spend easter weekend yelling at a computer screen for one drawing.
