Rescue! Now In Color

I took last weeks grim and gritty black and white drawing and made it into this weeks grim and gritty color drawing. I’ll have prints of this at Carol And John’s this friday at my table as well at the RBMC’s table. I think it’d look great in your kid’s room...or yours.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are Hooked on a Hug!

Here are the BIG hugs I did for Carol and John's Comics Free Comic Book Day! All three will be available as prints at the event Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd, along with tons of other merch!

World's Mightiest Mortal

SHAZAM!

He was one of my first comics, had Captain Marvel pj's when I was a kid so it was only right that I painted this for this year's Free Comic Book Day Art Show.  This piece was done with watercolor, inks and acrylic on my old favorite, clayboard.  If you would like to see it in person along with last week's Batman and TONS of great DC art done by talented folks in the Cleveland area make sure you come to Carol and John's Comic Shop THIS WEEKEND!  The original and prints of Shazam as well as all the other art in the show will be available.
Great fun to be had by all!  Check out all the event particulars here!

Batman: Pretty Poison

Keeping on with the Free Comic Book Day Art Show theme that was so deftly started by Tim (best Aquaman incarnation EVER), here is my fist of two pieces I have in the show.  Good ol' Batman the Animated Series style Batman.
My original idea was to do this batman on a red background as they did the backgrounds in the first few seasons of the animated Series.  As I started throwing my Dr. Martin's concentrated watercolors down on the clay board I was really liking the glow I got from the crimson and magenta so I went with it.  Some ink, acrylic, salt and more watercolor later Batman fighting in a cloud of Poison Ivy's toxic gas was born.  I took the title from a good Ivy episode and voi la!
This piece along with Tim's amazing Aquaman and other stunning comic images from my fellow Monsters and other Cleveland Artists will be available for show and purchase Free Comic Book Weekend and Carol and John's Comics, Cleveland, Ohio.  It's an amazingly fun weekend so be sure to come by!

More to come.......

Tim's Outrageous Aquaman!

Aquaman from the fantastic "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" cartoon is my favorite incarnation of the character.  This image is an Acrylic painting on an old, 18"x24" piece of canvas board. A painting that, if you feel so inclined, you can purchase at Carol & John's Comic shop's (in Cleveland, Ohio) Free Comic Book Day 2015 Art show.

This is my original drawing doodled in photoshop.

I printed the drawing out on the biggest paper that I could find (two 11"x17" sheets), and using clear gel medium, attached the printouts to the canvas board. This saved me a ton of time not having to redraw my drawing on the board.

Once that was dry, I started paining the background, and then worked my way through the rest of the piece until it was finished.

Crazy Catwoman

Every year around the holidays, our good buddies at Carol and John's Comics raffle off comic book covers created by local artists to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank.

Last year, I did a cover featuring Batman and Robin attacked by a swarm of Cat Woman's pets. Since that cover was pretty popular at the event (and I love me some kitties) I decided to do a follow up this year:

Acrylic paint with a touch of watercolor and colored pencil!

Pencils:

Last year's cover:

Come hang out at the comic shop on December 20th and win my new cover! Or maybe art by another RBMC member or one of our cartoon pals. Details here. See you there!

Hail to the King!

Happy Birthday Mr. Kirby (yes, I know...i'm a day early, August 28th is the King's birthday)! Thanks for sharing your imagination with the world, and inspiring countless others to do the same.

The RBMC made these stickers to commemorate the day, and raise some money for the Hero Initiative (a publicly supported not-for-profit organization dedicated to raise money for comic book creators in dire need), they'll be available at Carol & John's Comics in Cleveland, Ohio.

Batman: Quick & Dirty

Original Recipe
Artist extrodinaire and all around good dude, Ryan Finley is curating an art show this weekend at Carol And John's comic book shop around everyone's favorite orphan. My dadding and drawing schedule keeps me busy, but I squeaked this fella out during lunch breaks.  While it's a faster style than I'm used to, I can see working this way again. Particularly for sketch covers.
Some Photoshop Embellishment
The original will be on display this weekend at Carol And John's comic shop, and red (and pink and blue) prints will be available for purchase as well.

Free Comic Book Day Mural!

The Rust Belt Monsters could not have had more fun this weekend and Carol and John's Comic shop in Cleveland, Ohio.  Tasked with creating a mural depicting the Marvel universe in the 1970's, we dove in head first and never looked back.  A big thank you to John Dudas for bringing us into the fold and we really can't wait for next year.

501st Post! FCBD Venom!

Hey there Rust Belt-or-inos, here is a little painting I did for the 2014 Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) Art Show at Carol & John's Comic book shop in Cleveland!

The show is up for the weekend of FCBD (May 3rd) only, so if you're in the area, stop by and check it, and the rest of the art and festivities, out.

Good ol' Spidey (and Venom) up there was painted with Acrylic paint, on a 16x20 inch panel.

King of the M.O.D.O.K.s!

I suppose I'm some sort of M.O.D.O.K. fan, I certainly draw him enough .  Here's my version of Thomas Edison as M.O.D.O.K.  This version is no stranger to the mashup either.  I started with Edward G. Robinson cause, he would be good cast as ol' M.O. , if her were alive, and mostly head.  But anyway.  In drawing I came across the idea that Edward G. and the King o' Comics, JACK KIRBY kind of look similar, at least a little bit and Kirby having been a cigar aficionado I added the cigar.  The rest is graphite, watercolor acrylic and ink on clay board.

If you are interested in seeing this and other AMAZING Marvel art come to Carol and John's Comics on Free Comic Book day AND Free Comic Book eve!  See a show, get free comics, get a local Artist to draw something cool for you, come see the RUST BELT MONSTERS paint a mural that Saturday, Cos Play, EVERYTHING!  Really the best place for FCBD in the Cleveland area!
Prints of this and other pieces (as well as the pieces themselves) will be available for purchase at the FCBD show!!
See you there!

Adoration Of The Captain

Every year Carol And John's Comic Shop (our drink and draw sponsor and pals) have a giant christmas party.  This year that includes an art raffle benefiting the Cleveland Food Bank.

It's a riff on Adoration Of The Shepards, and I think I broke my hand drawing all those tiny stupid little lines.

Superman Day!

This July 27th is Superman Day at our favorite comic shop - Carol and John's Comics here in Cleveland, Ohio where the Man of Steel was created 75 years ago. To celebrate, the RBMC and many other incredible artists each donated a comic book drawing to the shop.

My personal celebration has consisted of watching a ridiculous amount of Justice League Unlimited. With that in mind, here is my cover:

See you all next Saturday and have a very super week ;)

Solomon Grundy, born on a Monday.....

..droppin' beats, eatin' brains.
..., ..., something something something.......
ok, I can't rap but I do like drawing Solomon Grundy.
The pants eatin'- ist, rootin' tootin' ist, zombie to ever crawl out of a swamp and make things mildly challenging Kryptonians and Gothamites alike!  He just won't stay down and unlike other mobile dead he's prone to the occasional haiku!  The man's a bard! A swamp Emily Dickinson prone only to evil and talking about himself in the 3rd person!
You can enjoy this and other comic covers drawings by my fellow RBMCers at Carol and John's Comics later this month as part of their Superman appreciation event, keep an eye on their site for details.

Action Comix

Hey Pals, Randy here. It's been a superman filled week for all of us, and there's more to come. Above is my drawing for Carol And John's superman art event coming next month. Below are some photos from the Truth, Justice And American Ale tasting event at Great Lakes Brewery.

Both fine examples of putting your own stamp on tradition and heritage. It's the American way.

Also, doing Deadpool drawings with your buddies Jim Giar, and Tim Switalski where you add Biggie lyrics to the gun. That's the American way, as well.

Stay cool out there kids.
