The Devil of Hell's Kitchen

After watching Daredevil on Netflix I too was bit by the gotta draw some Matt Murdock bug!  It was a great opportunity to play with ink and to see, again, how few colors I could get away with in one piece.  I got this one down to 4 if you don't count the ground color.  Enjoy!

Hey, look at Tim's doodle!

Hey art buds, just a quick(8hrs) digital painting today.  I felt like using my iPad, so I started this doodle in ArtRage,  just experimenting with color and shapes. Then I finished it in Photoshop.

Furry vest Frankie

I've always been a fan of Frankenstein's monster, every version especially the 70's-tastic, furry vest, monster of Frankenstein from Marvel comics.  He always seemed more of a James Bond badguy henchman than the classic monster.

Spider Woman!

We've had a busy summer out painting and such, even so, back to our mini challenges!  This time it's Spider Woman.  I decided to take the opportunity to mess around with my ink brush pen again as well as my exercises in limited color but this time I stumbled across a look from one of my favorite things growing up.
They use to sell these small, plastic pencil sharpeners with puffy stickers on the back of them, diecut out so you could stand them up and play with them like action figures.  Action figures you could have, play with on your school desk and when the teacher got mad you could say they were just harmless pencil sharpeners.  They were great, cost like 25 cents in the school office and looked kinda like this.  Always a yellow background and always limited color, but more importantly secret school time toys!

Fun times at Great Lakes

Had a lot of fun at Great Lakes Brewery's 2nd Annual Comic Book Heritage night!  Drew comics with my friends for appreciative people, met Derf and generally got to nerd out for a few hours.  A great night was had by all!  Thanks to Great Lakes Brewery and Carol and John's Comics for the event.

Here are a few of my warm ups and sketch covers. Enjoy!

HANK!

This is not nor will it ever be Erin (that portrait is on the way).  It's the every-lovin' Beast from the X-Men!  A little post Free Comic Book Day commission from a friend who couldn't make it to the festivities.  More fun with my ink brush and watercolor combo.  More to come!

Free Comic Book Day Mural!

The Rust Belt Monsters could not have had more fun this weekend and Carol and John's Comic shop in Cleveland, Ohio.  Tasked with creating a mural depicting the Marvel universe in the 1970's, we dove in head first and never looked back.  A big thank you to John Dudas for bringing us into the fold and we really can't wait for next year.

Ben: Free Comic Book Day Preview!

Free Comic Book Day is coming up and the Monsters are going to be all over the place!  In keeping with the rest of the crew, I'm also sharing my piece for the gallery show.  I wanted to draw some of my favorite characters from the period when I read Marvel Comics.  Had a good time with this one.

501st Post! FCBD Venom!

Hey there Rust Belt-or-inos, here is a little painting I did for the 2014 Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) Art Show at Carol & John's Comic book shop in Cleveland!

The show is up for the weekend of FCBD (May 3rd) only, so if you're in the area, stop by and check it, and the rest of the art and festivities, out.

Good ol' Spidey (and Venom) up there was painted with Acrylic paint, on a 16x20 inch panel.

King of the M.O.D.O.K.s!

I suppose I'm some sort of M.O.D.O.K. fan, I certainly draw him enough .  Here's my version of Thomas Edison as M.O.D.O.K.  This version is no stranger to the mashup either.  I started with Edward G. Robinson cause, he would be good cast as ol' M.O. , if her were alive, and mostly head.  But anyway.  In drawing I came across the idea that Edward G. and the King o' Comics, JACK KIRBY kind of look similar, at least a little bit and Kirby having been a cigar aficionado I added the cigar.  The rest is graphite, watercolor acrylic and ink on clay board.

If you are interested in seeing this and other AMAZING Marvel art come to Carol and John's Comics on Free Comic Book day AND Free Comic Book eve!  See a show, get free comics, get a local Artist to draw something cool for you, come see the RUST BELT MONSTERS paint a mural that Saturday, Cos Play, EVERYTHING!  Really the best place for FCBD in the Cleveland area!
Prints of this and other pieces (as well as the pieces themselves) will be available for purchase at the FCBD show!!
See you there!

I Don't Care What You Do, But Never Do It In Uniform.

This weekend (4-5-2014) the Rust Belt Monster Collective will be painting a live mural for the "Oh Captain!" show at Breakneck Gallery. It's a group show centered around our buddy Captain America,  if you're in the Cleveland area you should come out for what promises to be a stellar show.

For the past 4 years whenever I ask my friend and former comic partner for suggestions on what to draw , without fail he tells me to draw the dude smoking a joint, and I finally took him up on it. The original piece will be on display (and for sale!) at the show Saturday. Hope to see you there!

Your pal,

Randy

Tim: Ole' Cap's punchin' robits' again!

Hey Look! It's my piece from this coming Saturday's (4-05-2014) "Oh Captain" show at Breakneck Gallery in Lakewood Ohio!

Cap is painted in acrylic on a 16 x 20 inch textured wood panel.

If you're in town, come see him and the rest of the Cap-tacular art at the show!

Round 31: Who's got the sweetest disposition? One guess, that's who.

If you look close at this Disney/LucasFilm conglomeration, past the Star Wars mash ups to it's very nucleus you will find this ill tempered thing staring back at you.  Howard the Duck, a dirtier Donald Duck, a property of Marvel Comics (also owned by Disney) was once the hero of LucasFilm's movie adaptation of the Howard comic book.  And where is Howard fictionally from?  Cleveland, Ohio!  Truly a perfect storm that I couldn't dare not to draw.

Week 17: Kracka BOOM

One of my best pals performs under the name Thor, so when we got the challenge there was no other choice for me but to feature Marvel's Thunder God.  So there Lisa, I drew this thing.

I love drawing in this style, and I really hope they do this next year.  Because I'm itching to draw Namor macking on Sue Storm.

Never trust a lady that can turn invisible, fellas.
