Ben Draws Ninja "Toitals"

I haven't drawn with pencil and ink in a long time.  I haven't completely abandoned the physical realm, but I've come to enjoy my tablet and computer more and more.  Also, I've been animating and coding more than drawing.  Well, that is going to change this month.  Tons of projects and little time.  As a nice little warm up, I broke out my handy little pencil pouch and drew a Ninja Turtle.  Why?  Because my cousin's little boy is becoming quite the artist and I bought him a copy of "How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way".  It was the first art book I ever bought myself and was hugely influential.  I wanted to make it a little more special, so I threw this drawing on the inside cover.  Fun Fact: that inside cover worked surprisingly well with the Copic Markers.  Who knew?

There should be plenty more to come in the next few weeks as we get closer to Free Comic Book Day.

Ben's Free Comic Book Day Art Extravaganza

My Dr. Doom for the Mural. Modak by Craig Worrell and Silver Surfer by Erin Schechtman.

What an amazing time Free Comic Book Day was this year.  Not sure what changed, but there were next to no nerves going in.  The crowd was great and I got to meet a lot of really cool people.  Some from as far as London.  See, people from around the world come to Cleveland.  I thought I would post a collection of some of the art I did AT and FOR the event.
Sketchcards for the event. Raphael, Hellboy, and Hulk
More sketch cards. Joker and Superman

Ben: More Tests in Manga Studio

I'm still trying to get a handle on Manga Studio in the scant free time that I have.  I'm liking the "tones" and drawing tools.  My only real problem has been with how some of the anti-aliasing on the inking turns out when its exported.  Probably just a setting that I'm not seeing.  Either way, I'm really enjoying the program.

Feel free to check out my personal site at www.NeedYourDisease.com or follow me on Twitter.

Some more doodling on my Ninja Turtle.  Not sure how much further I'll take this one.

Ben: Sketch Roundup

Oh how time flies...well, not really.  Life has been extremely busy.  So I haven't been able to complete anything, but I have tons of sketches and false starts to show.  First up, I recently purchased Manga Studio 5 and am kind of in love with it.  The above Ninja Turtle is my attempt at learning the program.  I still have a ways to go, but I like the path I'm on.

Next few pictures are some gesture sketches I did of my superhero character.  Fast and loose and usually on my lunch break.

And finally, I was finally able to figure out some standard "tiles" to use for buildings in my game project.  Tiles are images that can be looped seamlessly to create different assets.  The next drawing is drawn on a grid of 3 x 3. Every piece of the grid, except for the corners, can be repeated infinitely to create the buildings...

Here is an example-

And finally: remember that guy in the green shirt that was walking around?  Well now I can drop him high enough to break his legs.  Fun right.  Below is a picture of the civilian in his "injured" state.

That's all for now.  If you'd like to see more of my ramblings and progress on the game, go to my personal blog:  www.NeedYourDisease.com
