Ben Takes You To Space!

Boy have I neglected this blog.  Well, I've neglected mine too, but that is neither here nor there.  Either way, the rest of the monsters were heading out to Genghis Con while I was driving back from Philadelphia so I couldn't attend.  But why not send something along for them.  So I sat down one night and threw this together.  I've never really played with half tones in Manga Studio so that was pretty fun.  I could actually see me abusing it if I'm not careful.  You can watch a time lapse of the drawing being made in the video below.  If you enjoy the video, please like and subscribe.  Thanks!

Tim: Don't scream Ripley, something will hear you.

So last week I was planning to just draw a quick sketch of Ripley, then  H.R. Giger passed away, and I figured a more in depth piece was needed.

Tune in next week (actually this Thursday) for, when i'll have a drawing of 'Spider-woman'.

Slipping a Bit, But Still Going

This week has been a little crazy so I don't have as much to show.  Above is a work in progress of Gamera vs. Voltron and below are some Alien and Superhero sketches.  I should have more to show next week and the shame of forgetting to post on Tuesday will be the exact fuel that I need.  See you next week!

Aliens Are Just Like Us

Just a quick dip into the vault which yielded a couple Alien-Tastic roughs.  The top one was an attempt to paint over a sketch in Sketchbook Pro on the ipad.  Might have to reintroduce that to my work flow.

Monsters Exchange Program

Ben Alien - Craigified
The Rust Belt Monsters have been doing a lot of live drawing lately.  The fun comes from creatining one massive expression of our group.  An artist will start drawing something, the person next them will draw their own idea, and so on.  But after a while, the piece stops being these separate entities and starts merging together.  You start drawing objects/characters that are reacting to what your friend is drawing.  Maybe one of the monsters will start filling in an environment that better serves your drawing.  And sometimes you pass the baton and let one of the monsters continue with what ever your were drawing.

Its a fun evolution of your character in a direction that you might not have expected.  We each have specific strengths and its always a joy to see your idea put through that person's artistic filter.  The other night I was drawing in my iPad and discarded some Alien drawing.  Craig picked it up and went forward with it.  Its a fun little exercise that I really suggest everyone try.  I did the same thing back in November.

Week 26: Little Johnny's Best Friend

There really is no better companion than a blood sucking being from another planet.  And when you think about it, isn't that who you want playing with your child.

Photoshop painting over ball point pen on copy paper.  That's right.  I used the entire spectrum of technology.  Go to my personal blog to see a WIP along with the original concept.  Might revisit it in the future, may not.

Wk 26: ahhh nice pooch

People have snakes, spiders and scorpions as pets why not a Xenomorph?  Just as cuddly, in some ways more so!
