The power of Terry compels you

As you've seen on our Facebook page, it's that time of year again.  Ingenuity Fest in Cleveland, Ohio!  We will be doing our 30th and LARGEST mural we've ever attempted and our friends at Voix de Ville will be pitching the biggest little show in town all next weekend!!!
I'm one of the featured artists for the Voix de Ville tent.  Last year I created their logo as well as giant billboards that go outside the tent.  For this year's festivities I created this little diddy.

This little character is Terry the Tinkle toad, he shows up occasionally at the performances, stirs up mischief as well as the audience for the next show.  The drawing is all brushed ink and once it was done I paired it with a photo I took of the back of a rusty sign and it seemed to fit.
SO!  Come on down to the Port of Cleveland next weekend and partake in an amazing event!

Ingenuity Fest '12 Live Draw Montage

While the Rust Belt Monsters would love for people to sit and watch us paint for 15 hours straight, we understand that bathroom breaks and general cramping make it prohibitive.  Luckily, Ron Caruso was nice enough to produce a nice little 4 minute montage of the Monsters creating their mural for Ingenuity Fest 2012.  Please sit back and enjoy our labor of love served up to you in a delightful 4 minute chunk.

Also, be sure to stop by blip.tv for Ron Caruso's show "The Other Section": Watch as Ron subjects himself to some of the most obscure pieces of cinema known to man.

Also, please be sure to "Like" and subscribe to the Rust Belt Monsters' Youtube channel as we have plenty more on the way.

Erin Round 29: SciFi School

For my Ingenuity Fest SciFi Fair poster, I got to work with Brittney Traywick who had some exciting ideas about the future of education in Cleveland. This scene illustrates a physics classroom, where the instructor uses holograms as teaching tools. Thanks Brittney for such an awesome idea!

The work is done in Adobe Illustrator, with lots of added textures. It was completed while I had the flu, so even though there are some things I would tweak, I am just thilled I managed to finish it at all!

Ingenuity Fest Cleveland 2012 Live Draw

Now that the Monsters are starting to get feeling back in their collective drawing hand, we can show off what 14 hours over 2 days can accomplish.  The entire mural was a completely organic process with each of us constantly feeding off of the artist next to us.  The time was spent laughing, joking, and learning as the 6 of us banded together to create what is surely our best mural yet.  Check out the photos below for some close up shots of the piece as well as some tired monsters.

Sci-Fi Fair Video

In collaboration with Ingenuity Fest Cleveland 2012, The Rust Belt Monsters banded together to create a series of posters (which we've been posting throughout the week) representing ideas for the future created by students at the Whitney M. Young High School.  We decided it might be fun to create a fake news reel showcasing these ideas with a few extra twists.  Above is the 3 minute result.

Keep checking the blog as the Monsters will be sharing their other collaborative efforts at the fair: an extremely humongous mural that took us over 14 hours to complete.  Craziness.

Check out my personal blog for some work in progress stills from the video: NeedYourDisease

Scene Magazine Boxes!

Seeing as how our boxes are being prominently displayed outside of Ingenuity Fest, now would probably be a good time to reveal the work we did for Scene Magazine.  To promote the upcoming art fest, the Rust Belt Monsters spent roughly 10 hours painting a mural across 16 boxes which were later spread across Cleveland.  It was a great honor to be included in the promotion of Cleveland's Ingenuity Fest and we could not be more excited for our live draw at the event.  Scroll down to see better pictures of each project as well as some WIP shots.  We hope to see you this weekend!

Round 29: Rapid Cleveland

I had the fortune to work on Katerra Moore's concept on how to make public transportation better in EVERY respect.  In essence, Miss. Moore wish is to make public transportation more efficient, cleaner, more comfortable, safe and free to the public.  How do you show all of that in one image without having a giant info graphic full of little info graphics?  Show a brilliant future Cleveland where all of this exists!  Sell a better future full of the progress promised by the atomic age but progress that will be DELIVERED by Katerra Moore and the Renewable Energy Age!

For those who I am sure can't read the small text:
Comfort:
More passenger and cargo space, light reactive windows and in-seat, multichannel video system to make your ride more comfortable.

Safety:
Greater Driver visibility, antilock breaks, run flat tires, passenger air bags and an active safety system makes sure you get safely from point A to point B.

Service:
Thanks to wind, solar and water power we are able to supply Cleveland with transportation FREE to the public!

Round 29: Sci Fi Fair!!

Our friends at Ingenuity Cleveland  have devised a fiendish scheme: pair Cleveland area science students with Professionals in the Arts and Science and see what happens!  Students at Whitney M. Young School were asked for their ideas that might transform the future for the better, shepherded by local Scientists, Engineers, City Planners to hone these idea and finally introduced to Artists (us!) to help bring their ideas to life!
In advance of Ingenuity Cleveland's annual Ingenuity Fest (Sept 14-16), a celebration of Arts and Sciences, we present the fruits of our Sci Fi Fair labor.  Stay tuned!
